New foreman appointed
Craig Ryland is Raetihi's new borough foreman. He commenced duties on Monday 1 January following the resignation of Kevin Miller in December. Craig, 28, was one of nine applicants for the borough foreman's position and was one of the three people selected for interview ... the other two were from Dannevirke and Foxton. Craig was born in Wanganui but has lived in Raetihi for the past 4-5 years with his wife Lee and daughter Jessie. Before this appointment, Craig had worked with timber in the bush at
National Park for five years as an employee of Clarrie Enright and for another four years at Timmos Mill (later Winstones) at Raetihi until it closed down last year. Garrick Workman, Raetihi's mayor, said that Craig, who had been on the council staff since the closing of the local mill was as well qualified as the other applicants and was selected because of his proven work record whilst employed by the council. Mr Workman said he confident that Craig maintain the high standara set by Kevin Miller during his year-long term of office.
