NAVY PARADE
On Wednesday 22 February Ohakune is to be honoured with a Charter Parade, presented by the Royal New Zealand Navy. SixtyunitsfromH.M.N.Z.S. Irirangi will march with fixed bayonets through town. They will be preceeded by the band of the Royal New Zealand Navy from H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel in Auckland. The parade will form at Christie Park shortly before 1 1 .00am, and then march to the Council Chambers where the Mayor will i'nspect the parade. Following the speeches of welcome the parade will move down Miro Street, the salute being taken by the Mayor from the Council Chambers steps. They will move into Clyde Street to march to the Moore Street / Clyde Street triangle and then return up Clyde Street, into Goldfinch Street to the Ohakune Club. Lunch will be taken at the Club. It is hoped to have T.V. and news media coverage of this event. Local schools will receive special invitations to attend and it is expected many residents from surrounding areas will also be attending. Retailers are being invited to use this day as a street market day to make the occasion a festive one. The Navy band will present a special musical programme in Jubilee Park from 1.30 pm to approximately 2. 1 5 pm. The public are invited to give this occasion full support.
