Racing with BULLY

A happy New Year to all our racing enthusiasts. It certainly has been a most hectic period since Boxing Day and there have been manyjbyous stories and also many hard luck tales about what was so close but ... Probably in this area the most heartbreaks happened when Coronal was disqualified at Ellerslie on the final day. However, that's racing. Wellington of course holds centre stage next Saturday with the Wrightson Wellington Cup being run at Trentham. Mr Lupton has announced that Kiwi will not be a starter because of an interruption to his preparation and this will obviously take a prime attraction away. I feel sure though that there will now be a lot of other owners heaving sighes of relief. My two selections (before acceptances) are Greatness and Suttle Knight. The unlucky horse mentioned earlier, Coronal could be worth some attention in the sprints. Irmas Gold and Purple Crown are others I expect to show up at this meeting. A special ff taken down from Woodville would be Marton. Up north things are

slowly getting back to normal after the multitude of meetings we have had and at Franklin staiy with Ben Irish and Caunie. Another horse running good races and not far away from winning is Temerity. You may remember ■ several months ago I mentioned Ian Strachan and the oats he was supplying to help Dunallen and others from the Evan Rayner stables at Marton to win races. Well he has really capped the lot this time. Roger McGlade fromTaupO, who trained the Auckland Cup winner, Stylish Dude, feeds his team on lan's oats also. Congratulations Mr Strachan. By the way, Ian • spent some time on the morning of the Cup at Nations' shop trying to convince a number of local racing enthusiasts just how well Stylish Dude was and * he was sure it would win. We all laughed at him, but no prizes for guessing who laughed last and loudest later on that day. A special for Trentham ... Quibble. Remember Bully tips them first and you read it in the Bulletin.
