NEW WALKING TOUR OPERATING

Ken and Raewyn Haworth of Pipiriki have begun commercial guided walking tours of the Matemateaonga Walkway. The Haworths, who operate the business of Pipiriki Jet Boat Tours, recently uplifted the licence for the use of campsites along the route. Originally the Haworths had applied for and been granted the licence in conjunction with Venture Treks. However Venture Treks decided not to go ahead with the proposition and eventually the Haworths

decided to proceed on their own. Because of the virtual "last-minute" decision to operate the walks, Mrs Haworth said that they hadn't had much chance to do any promotion. Nonetheless there is good interest in the walk and five people went on the first one., Leaving from Wanganui each Saturday morning until the end qf April, walk parties in groups of 8 are taken by mini-bus to the start of the walkway in the back of Stratford. Then comes 3 days of tramping on

the walkway. The last night is spent at the Homestead on Haworth's farm property, 21 kilometres up-river from Pipiriki. The last day Ken Haworth transports the people down the Wanganui River by jet boat where the mail mini-bus picks them up for return to Wanganui.
