• Ladies Opening Night: Cossie. Club, Saturday 26 November attended by about 60 people. A fantastic evening was enjoyed by all — included 'can-can girls' and the Country Music Club. Highlight was a presentation to the president, Mr Cyril Forbes, on behalf of all the ladies from the community. The present was wheeled in on a trolley, and a 'lovely lady' leapt from the decorated box. The band promptly played 'beautiful lady' and the dancing began. • Fire Brigade Honours Evening: Saturday 3 December dinner at the Mt View Hotel. Attended by 14 firemen and their wives. Special guests Murray and Marie Jonasen who recently shifted to Taumarunui. He was the 2nd officer and presented the following awards: 5 year medal Martin Taituma, Bar7 years service Danny Williams, Bar 18 years service Lou Williams, Wooden spoon David Watts. Evening concluded in the Brigade's social room. • Farewell presentation was made to Mrs Eunice Mills and daughter Pauline at a ladies evening held recently. Eunice and Charlie Mills have shifted to Wellington after living in National Park for 19 years. • National Park School Friday 9 December in the community hall, the children sang songs, acted out plays, hilarious skits, danced out jazzercise routines, sang Christmas carols, enjoyed a scrumptious afternoon tea and were rewarded with a
visit from Father Christmas and a bag full of sweets. Certificates were presented to the bus monitors and to the Form II pupils. Nine bouquets were also presented to all the lady teachers, teachers aids, clerical staff and school cleaner. • 'Wining & Dining': Wednesday 7 December three van loads of ladies graced the Willows Restaurant in Taumarunui with their presence, being the Waikune, National Park's annual Christmas dinner. • Avonlea Rest Home visit. On Tuesday 13 December the two junior classes visited the residents at the Avonlea Rest Home in Taumarunui - again with their Christmas goodies, baked at school earlier on. They entertained their captive audience happily, enjoying the experience and concluded with lunch in the Park and a well earned swim in the T aumarunui Swimming Baths. • School staff dinner The Sunbeam Lodge was the venue for the school staff, school committee members' etc etc and their partners on Tuesday 13 December.
