Raetihi Primary School Prizegiving

The end-of-year prizegiving ceremony for the Raetihi Primary School was held in the school hall on Wednesday 14 December. In his address, the principal, Mr K.E. Holmes said that the year had been a very full and pleasant one, free from many difficulties that have proved irksome in other years. This applied particularly to continuity of staffing, Mr Holmes said. Mr Holmes referred to the quality of programmes that the school staff had provided for the pupils. He said that the children were most fortunate in having such enthusiastic teachers who could see beyond the four walls of the classroom and who were prepared to go that extra rriile to bring subjects 'alive' so they would leave a lasting impression. The part the school played in developing personal and social values that werelasting was emphasised by Mr Holmes. These were lessons that were vital to life itself, and had to be learnt sometime and the sooner the better, Mr Holmes stated. "If children are not in the school environment to learn the primary skills of human living, where will they in many cases, learn them?" he asked. Mr Holmes thanked parents for their high level of support during the year. It was gratifying to the staff to know that their efforts were being backed by parents, he said. To the Form 2 pupils, Mr Holmes eXtended the best wishes of the staff, and thanked them for their contributions to the school. He asked them to be of

service to their new school, and to do things which would bring credit to themselves, their families, their town and their primary school.
