Racing with BULLY
Dear oh dear, what a disappointing display from my early Auckland Cup selection, Chimbu. He finished second to last at Pukekohe after having every show and although it is still three weeks away before the Cup, I cannot see him coming back to last year's form in time. The old thinking cap is now firmly on and we will have to come up with another choice next week. At Otaki Crackapon also turned on a shocker and he is obviously a long way from the horse he once was. The Wellington Racing Club had a disappointing day at Otaki on the first day so let's hope they get better support on their second day. One bright spot was Gold Bullion and he seemed right back to his very best with a stylish win.
Jimmy Cassidy certainly has that little man sitting on his shoulder at present and this top jockey is having a phenomenal run of success. When it comes to the big races these days, it has almost reached the stage of, instead of picking horses, it will probably be better to back Cassidy. Huron won well at Otaki and he will go on with it. Magoli ran its best race for some time and could be in for a good season. Quaypoint aTso was impressive at this meeting and it would pay to stiek with him for a while. Up north nothing impressed more than Elmar and he could give the big cups a decent shake if he holds this form. I like both him and Four Crowns to quinella the Avondale Cup. One very interesting
runner with a steady rate of improvement in the north is E1 Questro and it would be wise to watch his progress from now on. Little Recruit is performing up to his own high standard and could help fill your Christmas stocking. Remember Bully tips them first ... and you read in in the Bulletin.
