BMX CLUB
The Raetihi BMX Club needs more members if it is to launch into a major development of the track, said club president D'Arcy Newson last week. "With so few BMXers attending regularly we are a bit hesitant at this stage about committing ourselves to this development project which is going to cost riioney and take a considerable amount of labour," he said. A drive is being conducted to find out how many children — boys and girls — have BMX bikes and why more of them are not attending the meetings on the track behind the showgrounds. In an effort to stimulate interest and support, twilight meetings are being arranged for Thursday evenings starting at 5.30 up until Christmas and it is hoped that children from both Raetihi and Ohakune — which doesn't have a track of it's own — will come to these meetings. On Sunday 1 1 December an Open Day will be held on the track starting at 1 .00pm. No charge will be made for entering the various events but prizes will be awarded. A limited number of helmets will be available to those who have the bikes but not the protective head gear.
