Plaque for jovial mountain giant

Strong support for a move to place a memorial plaque on Mt Ruapehu's Whakapapa Skifield in recognition of Roy Turner is reported in the latest edition of the Federated Mountain Club's Bulletin. The proposed site of the plaque commemorating his service to the motintain fraternity is on the National Downhill rope tow which he himself set up to provide inexpensive skiing facilities on the Whakapapa Skifield. In the same magazine article a warm tribute is paid to Roy Turner who went missing on a flight in the Southern Alps with his family on 30 July.
