POLICE FILE

Eight Ohakune people, six men and two women between the ages of 17 and 20 were arrested last Wednesday on a total of 17 charges including burglary, false pretences, theft, and possession, selling and buying of cannabis. All were released on bail. They will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court

on Thursday 8 December. ★ ★ ★ Raetihi's Foodmaster store was broken into in the early hours of Saturday morning 19 November. Goods and cash to a total value of about $1000 were taken in what Raetihi police constable Kevin Entwisle said was "a fairly positive attempt".

Entry was gained through the back door after (1) smashing the security light to avoid detection (2) forcing the two bolts, top and bottom, on the door and (3) breaking the lock located in the middle of the door. The offenders took cigarettes and meat (including 70 muttonbirds) from the refrigerated store. They also removed a filing cabinet and a safe containing about $100 in cash. These two items were later found at the Ohakune refuse tip cut up, apparently with hacksaws. Police are seeking information about a Falcon V8 utility with a modified exhaust system. ★ ★ ★ A caravan parked at Kui Griffin's premises in Raetihi was broken into last Thursday and a radio stolen. ★ ★ ★
