Scouts earn top awards
Two Ohakune scouts received the highest awards available to them at this stage of their progress through the Scout movement when they were handed their Chief Scout badges in the Ohakune scout den last week. Tony Baker and Jimmy Samson had already been presented with their certificates for the same award at a more formal ceremony in Mangaweka earlier. This presentation of badges by Ohakune Scout Leader, Mr Neil Henderson in the local Scout den was an opportunity for other
members of the Ohakune and Raetihi Scout troops to share in the function. Tony who is 14 and Jimmy, 15, are both 4th formers at Ruapehu College and have been in the scouting movement for seven years ... three in the Cubs and four in the Scouts. Each has passed through the various grades — bronze, silver, gold and senior — before attaining this highest gra'ding they can get as scouts. At the age of 16 they will be eligible to become Venturer Scouts.
