Ruapehu College

• Form Four students are going on 2-day camps as part of their outdoor education. The students will be tramping through the Taurewa Forest and Tongariro National Park. The students will be accompanied by two qualified N.Z. Mountain Safety Council lnstructors and two members of the college staff. The first day of the camp the students travel to Taurewa. They will visit the Taurewa limestone caves and stay overnight at Whakapapaiti Hut. On the second day they tramp from Whakapapaiti to Ohakune Mountain Road via Lake Surprise and the Mangaturuturu Hut. 2 December. The students will be going to Cascade Hut in the Kaimanawa Forest Park. Accredited pupils are required to plan and purchase the food needed for the 5-day camp. The trip is to be supervised by Mr G. Brebner and Mr D. Allomes, both teachers from Ruapehu College. The camp is designed to bring out the leadership qualities of the students.
