Band celebrates 75th anniversary
The Waimarino Brass Band celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a street march through Ohakune last Saturday afternoon from their bandroom in Moore Street to Ruapehu College. There, after watching a gymnastics diSplay in the new community gymnasium, about 200 guests sat down to enjoy a reunion dinner. J|fcflany former bandsmen come.to Ohakune from all over New Zealand to help the band celebrate its 75th birthday weekend. Many more local. people turned out on a fine warm afternoon to see forty present and former bandsmen parade through town. One former member, Mr Cyril Baker now aged 87 and living in Hawkes Bay attended the . celebrations and had the honour of cutting the cake. Cyril was 12 when the band was formed in 1908. He is the son of Bill Baker who was one of the original members of the band and its ^^conductor. *Prwas a great weekend of reminiscences about making music together for past and present members.
