Bowling club season opens
The Ohakune Bowling Club opehed the 1983-84 season with a mixed tournament on their greens at Jubilee Park on Sunday 6 November. Thirteen teams, including some from Mananui, Taihape, Owhango and Castlecliff participated. Also present were delegates from the Wanganui mens bowls centre.
"It was a very successful tournament held in beautifully fine weather," said spokeswoman Mrs Rita Kaiwhare. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the Ohakune Bowling Club in the recently refurbished and extended clubrooms. First prize was awarded to a mixed team. Runner-up was a team from Owhango.

In the foreground is Rita Kaiwhare and on her left Vi Brown (one of the Ohakune Ladies team). Between them is Maragaret Eades and from left Audrey Nation (skip of the team ), Mrs ' Marty' Martin (patron ofthe club), Vi Gardner, Naomi Condon and members of the Waverley team. Not in the picture are two other members of the winning team Mrs Betty Hammond and Mrs Heather Cranston. They held off their second challenge from Rapanui last week.
