The drivers of the Auckland and Wellington trains greet one another on their simultaneous arrival at the Junction as Ohakune Stationmaster Graham Flynn looks on. The two diesel locomotives which had brought the 700 visitors to Ohakune were driven into the station and stopped nose-to--nose only inches apart. The Auckland train (left ) was driven by Roger Manukau of Taumarunui and the Wellington train (right) by Gavin Daji of Taihape.
