Turoa Tumblers
"Bare Cupboard", your last week's correspondent, has voiced undue personal criticism against Mr Hubbard and done an injustice to the Wanganui Savings Bank: • Turoa Tumblers did receive a grant from the Wanganui Savings Bank for which they are thankful. • The fundraising activities of Turoa Tumblers are organised by the committee of that organisation being made up of all parents whose children are members. In no way is Mr Hubbard solely responsible. • During the last five years Turoa Tumblers ha ve purchased in excess of $20,000 worth of equipment which is available for college and public use. In addition they have Contributed in excess of $8,000 to the community gymnasium in cash and labour. • Turoa Tumblers also assist other organisations with' their support in providing collections for the crippled children and providing displays at fairs and A and P Shows. • If the communities of Ohakune and Raetihi feel that they are being bled why is it then that all fundraising ventures have been well supported. • Personally I feel that the Hubbard's have given the community something that we would not otherwise have had and have given it with a great deal of personal sacrifice. Obsessed *-No! Dedication is how I interpret it, Turoa Tumblers have to be a success story with 14 of their members competing at national level with some of that squad holding New Zealand titles. Critics they do not need but support from the public so that greater heights may be reached.
