Chateau hosts wine buffs
The Chateau again hosted the Annual Wine Tasting Conference, which commenced at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday 30 October. The samples were opened, put into random order and then poured by Mr Willie Brown — wine merchant of Auckland and Mr John Waugh of Wellington to be delivered by the waiters to the various tables. The administration of the "National Wine Competition" was supervised by the Competition Director Mr J.C. (Jock) Graham — wine correspondent of the New Zealand Herald. The chief judge was Dr Maynard Amerine, Emeritus Professor at the University of California, Davis, USA — and an internationally reputed wine author and judge. executive officer of the Wine Institute of N.Z. Ian Clark of Villa Maria Wines Ltd. Brian Dennis, wine merchant, St Heliers, Auckland. Professor D. W. Beaven, Princess Margaret Hospital, Christchurch: . Mr John Pinder, High School Chemistry Teacher. Dennis Robinson, winemaker, McWilliams Wines (N.Z.) Ltd Napier. John Buck, managing director, Te Mata Estate Vineyards Ltd, Havelock North. He is also the longest serving New Zealand wine judge. Up until noon Wednesday 2 November, approximately 23 gold medals had been awarded. On Friday, 122 people were expected to attend the "wine seminar." Linda Pakau-Bowring
