Waiouru Fire Permits

The ATG in Waiouru has been enforcing fire restrictions at the camp for the last two weeks in an attempt to avoid a repetition of the two major bush fires which burnt out hundreds of hectares of Defence Department tussock land to the east of the camp last year. The restrictions apply only to Axmy personnel on the base, said Colonel Bruce Meldrum, and has been imposed as a precaution before the tussock becomes a fire hazard. Other groups occasionaily come into the area for special events and want permits, he said.
