River Park submissions

More than 1,100 submissions have been received by the Lands and Survey Department in response to the proposal to establish a 8 1 ,400 hectare national park along the banks of the Wanganui River. The submissions are currently being processed in Wellington and it is hoped to complete an analysis of the results by mid-January 1984. Until then no indications as to the number of submissions for or against the proposed Wanganui River National Park are available. However, it is known that several local authorities, businesses and private individuals in the Waimarino have written in support of the proposal.
