Ruapehu College Magazine '83 is being compiled and set out during the week ending Friday 4 November. The Magazine will be type-set locally then sent away to a commercial printer. It is going to co^t the College about $ 1 000 to print the magazine. Funds for the magazine are being provided from advertisements in the magazine, school fees and school council fund-raising activities. The magazine is an end-of-year summary of all the College activities during the year. It also provides students and teachers alike with a printed record of their college days to look back on. ★ ★ ★ On Thursday 20 October the 7th Form Geography class travelled to Massey ' 'University to attend a oneday course. The course provided the students with an opportunity to study under the expert tuition of resident lecturers and use the available facilities relating to geography which are available at Massey. Lectures ranged from sand dune formation in the Manawatu Lowlands to regional planning of small towns in the Central North
Island. The day was a thoroughly rewarding experience giving the students an insight to future university studies. ★ ★ ★ Senior exams were completed on Wednesday 19 October. Students have received their internal exam results foT the end Of the year. They now have only a few weeks before their external exams — School Certificate, University Entrance and Bursary — begin. Sixth Form students received their end of year reports on Wednesday 26 October. ★ ★ ★ The Auckland English Exam was sat by thirty-nine 5th Formers on Wednesday 26 October. The exam is offered an an- alternative to School Certificate English. The Australian Accounting exam was sat by five college students on Thursday 20 October, The exam results will be available to them in four weeks time. ★ ★ ★ Interhouse senior speeches were held Wednesday afternoon 26 October. House Results: 1 st Weka (27). 2nd Huia (25.5), 3rd Kiwi (24), 4th Tui ( 1 9). Of the eight seniors
competing Linda Davis of Weka House won the formal speeches and Dean Burrel of Huia House won the impromptu speeches Other speech competition results 4th Form prepared: 1. Gillian Whale. 2. Michael Marsden. Other speakers: Tina Yewen and Maria Fraser. 4th Form impromptu: 1. Sharon Binzegger, 2. Teresa McCarthy. Other speakers: Vivienne Mills . and Lesley Winiata. 4th Form House results: 1. Huia, 2. Weka, 3. Tui, 4. Kiwi. 3rd Form prepared: 1. Kerry Rich. 2. Vicki Pearce. Other speakers: Shaun Brebner and Rachel Berry. 3rd Form impromptu: 1. Mathew Mowat. 2. Glen Journeaux. Other speakers: Lesley Edrhondsand Lalena Ellwood. 3rd Form House results: 1. Tui, 2. Huia, 3. Weka, 4. Kiwi. ★ ★ ★ w Ruapehu College was visited by a group from the Salvation Army in Wellington on Friday 25 October as part of their Centennary celebrations. Staff and pupils were treated to 25 minutes of Iively sketches, narratives and dramas, with musical accompaniment from the 12 member group. Julieanne Grantham Jo-Anne Churton
