Success again for college investors

For the fourth year in succession Ruapehu College has topped the Wanganui region in the annual Secondary Schools Share Investment competition. . And, for the second consecutive year, they have earned a pl£ce in the top three schools of the 170 in New Zealand which entered in the competition. After finishing sixth two years ago and second last year they had hoped to win the competition this year but could only manage a third place ... once again behind Pukekohe High School which has won the competition for the second year in succession. Second placegetter this year was Freyberg High School. But Ruapehu College teacher and Shares Investment team coach and coordinator, John Laurenson, is not disappointed with his J^rn's performance ... just •Hreved that they hadn't missed out altogether following their late entry caused by a problem with the mails and delighted when he learnt that his team had come third. In fact, considering the

results he feels his Ruapehu College team has performed very well against what could have been expected to be the main opposition from some of the big metropolitan schools such as Auckland Grammar (5th), Nelson Girls College (14th), Napier Boys High School (16th), Nelson College (24th), Palmerston North Boys High School (30th) and Wanganui Boys College (37th). The competition is sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and is open to all secondary schools throughout the country. About 1 70 schools entered the competition in the Second Term but only 78 teams invested their nominal funds wisely enough to complete the competition which concluded last month. The competition is run in conjunction with the actual New Zealand share market, details of which are published in the newspapers. The Ruapehu College team planned their investments thoroughly and wisely with the use of charts and graphs.

They ended the competition with a nominal investment of $28,020.36.
