Turoa Art Awards

Regarding your article " A public thankyou" in last week's issue of the Waimarino Bulletin. My daughter and I are

extremely appreciative of the thanks extended to us by the Ohakune Borough Council for the work we have done in organising the Turoa (Ohakune) Art Awards.

As with all these projects we had to assist us a very keen and hardworking committee, without whose help and support the exhibition could never have become a reality. Mrs Margaret Horne gave unstintingly of her time and very hard work, and our treasurer Mr Gary McKenzie relieved us completely of the considerable amount of accounting work involved. His Worship the Mayor 'paved the way' for us in many respects, including arrangements to move the heavy screens to and from the exhibition venue. Mr Duncan Harvey wrote dozens of letters seeking sponsorships for some of the awards and donations to fund the exhibition, and Mr and Mrs Bruce Wilde entertained our judge Mr Brian Carmody and his wife in their home for the weekend. We owe a debt of gratitude to all the ladies who manned the office to receive the paintings from the artists and who supervised at the exhibition during the week it was on view to the public. We are also grateful to Mrs Fetzer and Mrs Joan Godfrey who helped with co-ordination of colour and arrangement of the paintings when the exhibition was. mounted. Our grateful thanks goes to the members' of the committee of the Ohakune Club who allow us to stage the exhibition in the beautiful club lounge, a venue that is indeed envied by many who try to stage exhibitions to the best advantage in much less salubrious surroundings.
