Councillors farewelled

At last month's Ohakune Borough Council meeting — the last of the present 3year term — four councillors, two of them Ohakune's longest-serving councillors — were farewelled. Councillors Max Martin

and Bruce Thompson have both served several terms on council — Max Martin for more than five terms (17 years) and Bruce Thompson for four terms ( 1 2 years) — and they have decided to stand down in the forthcoming elections. Councillors Feter Akapita and Allan Murdie were the other two councillors who are not putting their names forward for the next 3-year term. Both have served for one term.

In thanking the retiring councillors, Ohakune's Mayor Bill Taylor made special mention of the dedication and commitment of all councillors. Most of them attended at least 2 out of every 3 committee meetings each month as well as the regular monthly fiill meeting of council. The retiring councillors thanked the mayor, fellow councillors, the town clerk, office staff, the town planner and expressed their best wishes to the incoming council.
