Emergency radio equipment for Waimarino
Now that the Ohakune Borough Council has been appointed the administering authority for civil defence in the Waimarino area, the regional communications radio and equipment is to be re-located at the Ohakune Council Chambers. It had previously been installed at the Waimarino County Council offices in Raetihi where, to the concern of some Wanganui United Council committee members, it was not being monitored. Mr R. Filborough. from the Ministry of Civil Defence in Palmerston
North, pointed out that the radio provided a vital link in the regional communicati^fc network which incli^^P Marton, Taihape and Wanganui. Wanganui United Council's regional civil defence organiser, Mr G. Kereama, has drafted a plan clarifying the location and manning of the radio. The Waimarino's civil defence organiser, Bully Hays of Ohakune, now has an office in the former BNZ building in Clyde Street which al'so houses the Ohakune Fublic Librarv.
