Probation officer gives talk

The September meeting of the Waiouru C.W.I. was held at the home of Mrs Brenda Manley. The motto for the month was. "You mav find the worst enemy or best friend in yourself". After a brief meeting, Mr Tony Ellis gave an interesting talk on his role as a Frobation Officer. Mr Ellis is the onlv probation officer within the Hunterville to J^ropito area. A probation i^Hber is responsible for many things in his job. including working with first offenders atxd those who

have just been released from prison. Mr Ellis explained how the Government is adopting an attitude of more offenders being involved in community work rather than being sent to prison. He also spoke of a scheme called 'community care\ which is hoped to be introduced soon, where prisoners have more dealings with the community while still in prison. Mrs S. Swinbourne was the monthly. points cup winner.
