Oriental origins
Mah-jong is perhaps one of the most exotic games played regularly in the Waimarino. It is played regularly by a group of adherents at the Ohakune Club every Monday afternoon. Originating in China it be played by 2, 3 or 4 f^Bple and is a most ^^joyable game even whilst learning, said spokesperson Keitha Journeaux who went on to explain that most of the twelve or so people who
come along regularly every Monday afternoon were complete novices 2-3 months ago when the group was formed. Anyone.who has the time and thinks they may be interested is invited to come along to the club on a Monday afternoon and, on the payment of 50 cents, will be introduced to the mvsteries of this ancient oriental game, which uses decorative counters with strange symbolic devices.
