We're in business
As we mentioned last week, the Bulletin has made the transition from one brand of computer-type-setter to another and this has involved a change of staff to operate the new equipment. Kathy Shaw, who came to Ohakune from Auckland early in June with the Compugraphic Editwriter machine, has set all the type for the first 1 4 editions of the Waimarino Bulletin. But that machine was required back in Auckland — and so was Kathy - which meant that in order to continue publishing the Bulletin as an ' a 1 1 - Waimarino' operation, another machine had to be obtained. We managed to get another typesetter — an AM Varityper — from the Metro magazine in Auckland, but the two systems were not compatible so Kathy was unable to train the 3 local girls we were planning to employ as operators. This meant we had to bring a trainer down from Auckland for a week to
teach the local girls — Belinda Stevens, Teresa Fenman and Diane Fasco — how to use this complex piece of equipment. With deadlines to meet, the newspaper to publish, with two machines and five operators in this small office things got a little crowded and confused last week as one typesetter was pha^HL out and the other one phased in. But all is now well — the Compugraphic and Kathy have returned to Auckland and the three local operators, all of whom will work part time, — the newspaper business being what it is — are handling the complexities of computer typesetting with confidence and enthusiasm. In fact, such is their expertise that the Bulletin can now offer a commercial typesetting and design service to all clients in the Waimarino who may wish to print or publish just about anything ... we - invite enquiries at our Ohakune office in Clyde Street c phoneOKN681.
