Olympic Ski Squad Announcement

The New Zealand Subaru Ski Championships were completed last Saturday in gloriously fine conditions on the Whakapapa Skifield. On Saturday evening the New Zealand Olympic ski squad was announced by Athol Lonsdale, president of the N.Z. Ski Association. Those who have been selected to go to Europe for training next month to prepare for the Olympic Ski events in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, in February, are: Marcus Hubrich ( Wellington); Mathias Hubrich (Wellington); Simon Wi Rutene (Rotorua); Bruce Grant (Queenstown); Christine Grant (Queenstown); Kat.e Rattrary(Christchurch). It is from this squad that " an Olympic team will be selected based on their performance in Eurdpe. Following Friday's slalom event (for results see p.7) the results of the giant slalom are as follows: Mens: Marcus Hubrich 126.99 sec. Bruce Grant 127.40 sec, Darrell Ramsfield 129.53 Sec. Womens: Kate Rattray 136.72 sec, Christine Grant 138.79 sec, Justine Jones 144.96 sec. The winners of the combined slalom and giant slalom events were: Mens: 1, Marcus Hubrich; 2, Mathias Hubrich; 3, Mark Fulton. Women: 1, Kate Rattray; 2, Justine Jones; 3, Adele Coberger.
