College presented with ammo
The Ruapehu College small-bore rifle teams were presented with I000 rounds of .22 ammunition from Winchester N.Z. Ltd. Their 'ammo' will be used by the college's three teams in their bid for the NZ Secondary School's Smallbore Championships. Each team comprises 5 students and is open to both boys and girls. Last year the college entered one team and came 72nd in a total field of 230 secondary schools throughout New Zealand. This will be their fourth attempt. Winchester NZ Ltd supply all the competing schools with .22 ammunition for these championships which are shot at local 25-metre ranges. Ruapehu College con-
ducted their shoot at the Deerstalkers range off the Tohunga Road last Friday. The target cards are then all sent into the NZ Smallbore Association for marking. The results will be announced later in the year. "One of the aims of these championships is to promote safe firearm useage," said Ruapehu College teacher Graeme Brebner. All the donated ammunition must bepresented through a sports shop retailer - in this case Ohakune Sports and Gifts. "The cost to Winchester must be phenomonal" said Snow Brannigan as he presented the two 500-round boxes last week, "this little lot alone would have cost about $80 retail."
