Saved by prompt action of Brigade

Frompt action by the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Ohakune Borough Motor Camp supervisors saved this holiday caravan from almost certain destruction recently. The alarm was raised by the camp supervisors, Jim and Thelma Burrows, when they saw the caravan full of smoke. Thelma Burrows rushed to the phone and Jim grabbed a portable fire extinguisher. But with the owner away skiing for the day. Jim Burrows was unable to get into the caravan and had to prise a window open in an attempt to use tfie extin- " guisher, but with little effect. The Brigade were soon on the scene and managed to

bring the fire under control before it had done too much damage. . The cause of the fire was a faulty electric blanket which had been left on. Damage was mainly confined to

bedding and upholstery. Caravanners are advised to leave their keys with the camp supervisor and to switch off all electrical equipment when they leave the camp area.
