Presented with certificates
The first pupils ^at the Raetihi Frimary School to qualify for their Level One 'Taha Maori' certificates last term were, Cheryl Hinana ( ! I), Sylvia Fue ( 1 1) both of standard 4 and Lisa Wa;ara (9) of Standard 3. They received their certificates after passing a number of tests. These included: I. Correctly pronouncing, on sight, up to eight Maori piace-
names, which included some from the local area. 2. Counting to twenty in Maori. 3. Ferforming an ' elementary Karanga, Whaikorero or Waiata, either as tangatawhenua or manuhiri. 4. Giving a~short speech, in English, on a Maori subject. 5. UndegB takinga specific marae respon^l ibility. 6. Telling orally. and illustrating a Maori legend.
