Security Services

Like many other towns in New Zealand, those in the Waimarino have been experiencing an increase in the number of burglaries, thefts and breaking-and-entering incidents in recent times ... often involving commercial premises. Retail shops, schools, hotels, clubrooms, chemists and farm sheds have all come in for their share of attention as well as private houses and holiday homes. The problems of security have been recognised for some time but the solution has remained elusive. Various alternatives have been proposed; an increase in police staffing for the Waimarino; local businessmen forming some sort of security patrol themselves; installation of electronic . alarms and the employment of security agents from other centres who have visited the area and offered then*| services, In these last two categories, businesses in both Raetihi and Ohakune were approaced in January of this year by River City Security Svstems of Wanganui. Then in August, businesses in the Waimarino were approached again by New Zealand Industrial Security Services based in Marton. And the most reent approach has been from Manawatu Security Services who are here now canvassing potential customers in both the commercial and private se.ctors. Manawatu Security Services, in conjunction with Alarmco, is the oldest security organisation in Manawatu and is based t|P Palmerston North but their director, Mr R. Frocter. is exploring the possibility of opening :up a service in the Waimarino area, using local iabour after suitable training. Mr Frocter will be in the area again on 22 September and hopes to be able to finalise details then.
