A life on the open road
Seen in Ohakune last week was this 'modified' truck with its four occupants all from Northland and all bound for a life on the open road. They are Kathy Forbes, Pat Collins, Romi Curl and Margrit Hoogendoorn who set out fro.m Matakohe in Northland several weeks ago after spending a year converting their truck into a comfortable home on wheels. One of the home comforts on board is a wood-burning stove. All are keen on tramping and skiing and generally living the outdoor life ... that's what they've been doing in Ohakune. During their stay in The Waimarino they have spent a lot of time 'on the mountain' and in and
around the Tongariro National Fark. They have also taken a leisurely look — dictated by the sedate speed of their mobile home — at the Waimarino countryside on a discovery and familiarisation tour. They were heading south generally in the direction of Cook Strait and the South Island. 4k After heading down tijj Pipiriki and the Wanganui River the group will split up and two of them, who have sold their homes up north, will continue their travels throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand for as long as they can for years perhaps — selling hand-crafted leather goods as they go.
