Raetihi Candidates spared ordeal

Residents of Raetihi will not now have to go to the polls on Saturday 8 October to vote for a new Borough Council ... they already have one. Sitting Councillor lan Frame had let his name go forward at the last minute thinking that there may not have beenenough nominations to make up a full council (8). But when he discovered that his nomination made a total of 9 candidates and would necessitate an election he decided to withdraw his name. He said that he had . served nearly three terms on Council and "its about time for some young blood." His withdrawal means a saving to Raetihi Borough Council of about $ 1 500 in election costs.
