All nominations for the local authority elections on 8th October had to be in by noon last Friday, 2ndSeptember. Following is a brief summary of the position in the Waimarino County, Raetihi and Ohakune Borough Councils. Waimarino County Council Ohakune Riding: Doug Bennett; Gavin Jones. Manganui Riding: Bruce Berry; Winston Oliver. Karioi Riding: John Martin; Malcolm Whale. Huikumu Riding: Ian McCoubrie. Parapara Riding: Conrad Heinold. As the number of candidates nominated do not exceed the vacancies on council all are duly elected. Raetihi Borough Council Councillors: John Compton, Andrew Cornwall, Ian Frame, Keith Haitana, Bill Pehi, Tom Punch, Ken Summerhays, Terry Tapp, Marguerite Webb. As there are more candidates (9) than there are vacancies (8) there will be an election by postal vote. Mayor: Garrick Workman. As no other candidates were nominated the candidate is duly elected.

Ohakune Borough Council Councillors: 'Snow' Brannigan, Pat Burns, Allan Goddard, Ellen Gould, Peter Hammond, Bully Hays, Ian Heappey, Margaret Horne, Gary McKenzie, Errol Sue, Mike Wiggins, Bill Willis. As there are more candidates (12) than there are vacancies (9) there will be an election by postal vote. Mayor: Bill Taylor. As no other candidates were nominated the candidate is duly elected. Rangitikei- W anganui Catchment Board Harold Manson, Peter Hammond. As there are two candidates for the one vacancy there will be an election by postal vote. Wanganui Hospital Board Godfrey Harvey, Dorothy Scarrow. As there are two candidates for the one vacancy there will be an election by postal vote. King Country Electric Power Board Ian Strachan. Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board Doug Bennett. As no other candidates were nominated for the two power boards both are duly elected.
