Be a Y's skier and get fit

Whether you're a beginner, a recreational skier or a ski racer you will enjoy skiing more and be less prone to injury, if you are fit. That is the objective v behind the current Ski Y's programme being conducted at the Ohakune Primary School every Monday and Wednesday evening at 7.30.

About 20-30 people (equal numbers of men and women) have been attending the twice weekly 1-hour sessions of rythmical exercises since Trish Cohen (foreground) started the programme in mid-July. Trish, who undertook a special training course in Auckland earlier this year describes the programme as a combination of music and exercise in which the emphasis is placed on leg and

arm stretching movements relevant to skiing. She explains the purpose and benefits of each exercise as she demonstrates them to the accompaniment of music. Numbers are buildjng up but there's still room for more. The programme will continue to the end of the ski season in October. Phone Trish on OKN 274 for details.
