Waimarino Squash Tournament
The D, E, F, Grade tournament held over the weekend of the 12/13/14 August was a great success ' with visitors from as far away as Australia, Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, Inglewood, - Kawaroa Park, Dannevirke, Taihape and Wanganui taking part. * Results: Mens Division (1): Winner: Warwick Goile; Runner-up: Ross Gillett; Plate: Colin Weston (Dannevirke); Sp. Plate: John Laurenson; Cons Plate: Colin Hayvice (Taumarunui). Mens Division (2): Winner: Eric Taylor (Taumarunui); Runner-up: Murray Rountree (TCOB); Plate: Russell Berridge; Plate Runner up: Hank Matoe; Sp. Plate:
Graeme Irwin; Cons Plate: Russell Pettit (Te Kuiti). Mens Division (3): Winner: Jonathon Poauro (Inglewood); Runner-up: Tammy Pikari; Plate: Mark Morgan (Taumarunui); Sp. Plate: Shane Reid (Te Kuiti); Cons Plate: Kevin Entwisle. Ladies Division (1): Winner: Judy Hooker (Kawaroa Park); Runner-up: Aroha Irwin; Plate: Kerry Hayvice (Taumarunui); Sp. Plate: Jill Weston (Dannevirke); Cons Plate: Joy Crowley. Ladies Division (2): Winner: Christine Hawira; Runnerup: Lynnly Henare; Plate: Kate Siddells; Plate Runnerup: Peta Hill (Taumarunui) Sp. Plate: Karen Clarke (Taumarunui) Cons. Plate: Ngaire Etana (Taumarunui).
The club wishes to express its appreciation to the tournament sponsors Winstone Afforestation, Winstone Samsung, Darcy Newson and Terry Tapp. The interclub ladies F Grade team are managing to keep in front of their opponents with another win against Turangi. Wins to L. Henare, M. McLean and G. Hawira. The losses to K. Rihia and K. Siddells who both played hard. The mens D grade team are coming alive with another win against Dannevirke. Wins to Warwick Goile five setter, Terry Martin 4-1, John Laurenson 4-1, Kevin Martin beating Colin Weston in a five setter. Colin played in the tournament during the
weekend. The games between Colin and Kevin were great games. The E grade men lost to Turangi 4-1. Losses to R. Berridge, Tige Todd, Craig Munro, Graeme Irwin and their win was to Sam Arahanga. The F grade men also lost 2-3 to Taumarunui. Club championships are coming up on the weekend of the 26/27/28 August. Anyone interested is invited to come along and watch the games at the Raetihi Squash Club.
