Waiouru La Leche League

The July meeting of the Waiouru La Leche League was again held at the home of Mrs Jill Murray, with an excellent attendance of eleven mothers and six babies, amongst them one 13 days old and another 3 weeks old. A variety of ideas on "The Art of Breastfeeding and Overcoming Difficulties" were discussed and mothers shared their experiences and tips with everyone. Mrs Lyn Morris, the group leader, reminded the group that in the hospital some mothers and babies have a good start and others a slow one but all can settle down happily once they return home. The first six weeks are a time of learning and adjustment and the group discuss-

ed aspects such as how long and how often to nurse the baby, what to do when you think your milk supply is low and how to cope with a fussy baby. While talking about the early days of a nursing relationship the term "Supply and Demand" was mentioned. This simply means "The more you nurse, the more milk you will have." The Waiouru La Leche League is grateful to the Waiouru Thrift Shop for their recent donation of $100. This is being used to update and enlarge the group 's loan library. "Nutrition and Weaning" is the topic for the final meeting of this series, which will be held on 17 August with the new series starting in September.
