New Physiotherapy Clinic opens in the Waimarino

A physiotheraphy clinic has been opened in the former Carter building in Clyde Street, Ohakune. The clinic is operated by Don Allomes who is physical education teacher at Ruapehu College and

also a fully qualified physiotherapist. Mr Allomes already operates a physiotherapy clinic at Waiouru Military Hospital each night of the week, regularly caring for some 25 patients.

Sports medicine Originally trained as a physical education leader, Mr Allomes developed a particular interest in sports medicine. To further his knowledge in this sphere he attended Auckland

Psysiotherapy School completing the 3 year professional course. He has worked at Ruapehu College for the past 3 years where his wife and business partner, Sue, is home economics teacher. Mr Allomes said he will continue teaching. "I opened the physiotheraphy clinic to provide a service to the community and also further my interests in sports medicine." "Ultimately we would like to have a complete sports training clinic with full training facilities and balanced programmes designed for each individual". In the meantime, operating the physiotherapy clinic and teaching physical education at college, I'm combining the best of both worlds in terms of applying my professional skills." Skiing interest While teaching at Lincoln

High School in the South Island, Mr Allomes helped set up the school' s ski programme, the second school in New Zealand to do so. Since being at Ruapehu College he has furthered his interest in the physical aspects of skiing. He has helped with the training of N.Z. Ski Association regional teams and the associations national A & B teams when they've trained here. He has also been active in physical training for the skiing programme at Ruapehu College and Turoa Alpine Ski Club. As if all this wasn't enough to keep them busy, Don and Sue operate the business of Educational Tours Unlimited. Currently a ski and outdoor education programme for out-of-town schools, the Allomes hope to extend this to white water rafting and summer safari tours in the future.
