Badminton Club News
When Teresa Penman decided to move from her home town of Wanganui to Ohakune two years ago to work at the local Ranger Station there was little about her appointment as
Parks Board Assistant to indicate a background any different in Wanganui but different it was! When she wasn't operating the computer typesetter on the night shift
at Wanganui Newspapers (publishers of the Wanganui Chronicle) Teresa was playing badminton . . or so it would seem from her achievements in that code of sport. Just prior to moving to Ohakune Teresa was selected to play badminton for the NZ representative side against Australia in both the single and ladies doubles but, because of her appointment to Ohakune, she had to decline. She had already won the under-23 New Zealand title with Kevin Ross in the national championships mixed doubles event in Auckland. Teresa has agreed to coach the local Ruapehu Club on an ad hoc basis when time permits. Until the new College and Community gymnasium became available badminton was played in the Ohakune Primary School hall but future club evenings will now be held on Tuesdays (four courts) in the new Ruapehu CoIIm^ gymnasium and Thursd^^ in the Ohakune Primary School hall (two courts). . The club invites junior s to come along to the Thursday evening sessions at the Ohakune Primary School where they will be coached by John Eades.
