LOCAL AUTHORITY ELECTIONS

With just a month to go before nominations for the 3 local authorities in the Waimarino close at noon on Friday 2nd of September we felt it would be useful to supply a list of sitting councillors who have indicated their intentions regarding the forthcoming elections later this year. Waimarino County councillors intentions were unavailable at time of going to press.

OHAKUNE

Bill Taylor/Mayor - having been elected Mayor in a byelection 2 years ago and not having completed a full Jkrm, Mr Taylor has said ^Pat he will be seeking a further term of 3 years Bruce Thompson /Deputy Mayor - has decided not to stand again but may return later. He will have completed 4 terms (12 years) as councillor at the end of his present term. Max Martin - has decided "reluctantly" not to stand again. He has already served on the council for 17 years and will have completed 6 terms at the end of this year. But he "hopes to come back another day".

Richie Akapita - seeking another term. Peter Hammond - undecided at this stage. Bully Hays - seeking another term. Margaret Horne - seeking another term. Alan Murdie - undecided at this stage. Mike Wiggins - seeking another term. Bill Willis - seeking another term.

RAETIHI

Rev Bob Peck/ Mayor - having served 1 term as councillor and 1 term as Mayor, has decided not to stand again in order to have more time for his family and other commitments. Garrick Workman/ Deputy Mayor - considering standing for the mayoralty but cannot make a firm decision until the end of August. Ian Frame - undecided. He has served 2 full terms and part of a 3rd term — a total of about 8 years. Peter Arahanga - not seeking another term. John Compton - seeking another term. Keith Haitana - undecided at this stage. Bill Pehi - seeking another term. Tom Punch - seeking another term. Ken Summerhays - seeking another term.
