Bridge club stages winter tournament
On 21 July the Ohakune Bridge Club held their first •r local tournament. Play limenced in the Senior Studies Block at Ruapehu College at 1.30 with 24 players taking part. Play was divided into two sessions and completed by 5.30pm. At a dinner held that evening at the Sunbeam Lodge, Club President David Palmer announced the results and presented the winners, Kay Wallis and Grace Geraghty, with the Winter Cup. This trophy was kindly donated by Heather Webb for annual competition in the club. Heather, who will soon be leaving the district for Canada, was presented with an album of photos to re^wnd her of her bridge ^P^nds in Ohakune. Special thanks went to Peter Cromwell for the excellent organisation of the tournament which was run
using 'Howell' movements that permitted every pair to play every other pair during the afternoon while still conforming to the duplicate concept. Results of play were: lst: Grace Geraghty and Kay Wallis. 2nd: Les Burns and Margaret Eades. 3rd: Beverley and David Palmer. BecaUse of the increasing interest a further series of introductory lessons for beginners is being considered for later in the year. Any interested person
