Racing with BULLY
Trentham concluded last Saturday and again the fields in the main were very small and uninteresting. That Trentham mud certainly takes its toll at this time of the year. The Levin Ryder Stakes proved a
shock result with the failure of Foxing and Fine Offer. However we must , not underestimate the capabilities of the winner, Beachcraft, who is a very good racehorse indeed. He was also very well ridden by Tony Williams. The Jockey's Premiership is nearing its finale and it would appear that David Peake looks the winner this year, with probably a new record in the number of winners ridden. Incidentally, Peake spent several years living in Ohakune as a young lad — his father worked on the railways. Two who I think will represent the North Island
with distinction at Riccarton shortly are Star Quality and Belmore. The Jim Campin trained Star Quality needs plenty of room when racing and I am sure he will get it at this venue. Campin only travels when he knows he has the 'goods' and the stable is confident with this fellow. Belmore is in much the same category and after his spectacular success at Hastings I expect him to again sal'ute the Judge. Up north watch Kirrason from the Colin Jillings stable, he could help pay the grocery bill. So remember — Bully tips them first and you will find them in the Bulletin.
