Ruapehu College and Community Gymnasium

continued from page one A unique feature is the inclusion of the sponge-filled dismounting pit (a Turoa Tumblers project) which can be used for all kinds of gymnastic dismounts as well as athletic training and trampolining at floor level (the only safe way). Applications for the use of the gymnasium by local clubs should now be forwarded to the Gymnasium Management Coinmittee, c /- Ruapehu College, Ohakune. Some of the established clubs have already begun trying out the new facility including the Gymnastic club and the Badminton club. The newly formed Basketball Association has already made a major impact and Volleyball the world' s most popular sport) and indoor Soccer will soon be starting — the more the merrier . . such a building should never be empty! After years of lobbying for this facility and the many hours of fundraising to ensure its proper size, it is only right that those responsible are assured that the building will not be misused when made available to the public. The community will be proud of this facility and will wish to continue to be so. To this end the Management Committee met last week and decided on the following basic rules which will be strictly enforced: 1. No entry without authority. 2. No outside footwear to be worn inside the gymnasium, i.e. one has to either change.into white-soled footwear only or

be barefooted. (This rule is. necessary in order to protect the special 'Taraflex' floor covering — an expensive multisandwiched foam construction — a French product as used in Munich and Moscow Olympics). 3. All apparatus to be carried or wheeled on trolleys. 4. No smoking. 5. No foodstuffs. 6. No alcohol (actually banned on College site). The Gymnasium Management Committee formed to ensure the proper use of the facility consists of: The Principal of Ruapehu. College, Mr Michael Warbrick; Wanganui Education Board Member, .Mrs Peggy Frew; Ruapehu College Board Member, Mr Brian Eades; Head of P.E. Dept. Ruapehu College, Mr Don Allomes; Elected Representative of Community Clubs, Mrs Bubs Hibbard. The rules for hiring of the Ruapehu College and Community Gymnasium by community clubs will appear next week.
