Arms Amnesty

Up to this weekend only 5 weapons have been handed in to Waimarino police stations. Waiouru police report two pistols — one a .45 Colt and the other a 9mm Luger — were brought in. Raetihi's policeman reports that he has received three .22 rifles. Ohakune and National Park police stations have had no weapons or ammunition handed in so far. People are reminded that the arms amnesty expires next Sunday, 31 July. Unregistered firearms, ammunition and explosive devices can be handed in without fear of prosecution until then.
