New look, better service
The 'new-look ' exterior to the Ohakune Borough Council chambers are taking shape and the contractors, Horne Bros, expect to have the work completed this week. Gone is the front portico with its two solid concrete columns — the main entrance now has an access ramp as well as steps onto a covered verandah on the Miro and Ayr Street frontages. Since the renovation work on the interior started in March, staff have continued to conduct all council business in the building, with the exception of full Council and committee meetings. But this has been achieved undersome difficulty and inconvenience for both staff and public as offices, furniture and equipment had to be moved from room to room, said town clerk, Colin Turner. The renovated building with its new layout and extra space should allow for a much more efficient service to be provided and all future council meetings will be in the new Council Room, formerly the library.
