A new facility for Ohakune Kindergarten
Ohakune Kindergarten parent Graham Murdie (pictured) does what comes naturally . . . only this is a little different! As a builder with Horne Bros he is accustomed to pouring concrete, but usually from a cementmixing truck during a normal working week — not from a wfyeelbarrow on his day off. The reason for this unusual Sunday activity was that Graham, together with other Ohakune Kindergarten parents and Ruapehu Lions were building a climbing platform and zoom slide for the children on the Arawa Street kindergarten site. The work has taken three weekends of voluntary labour by members of both Ruapehu Lions and Ohakune Kindergarten parent groups. The materials for this
project, valued at about $1000, have been kindly donated by local business firms and other members of the community. The Ohakune Kindergarten committee wishes to thank Ruapehu Lions as well as all parents and others who contributed their time, labour and materials towards this very woi> thwhile project which^fc now operating . . . much^T the delight of the children. * * * Other kindergarten news is that, after two terms of having to rely on relieving staff, a permanent teacher has at last been appointed to Ohakune. But the appointment will not be filled until the beginning of the Third Term in September. Meanwhile another relieving teacher wilTbe arriving from Wanganui this week.
