Wanganui Savings Bank donations
Wanganui Savings Bank's annual distribution of donations for the Waimarino took place in Ohakune last week. At a function in the •kiakune Hotel over 60 8R:al dignitaries, officers of the bank and representatives of local organisations gathered to mark this, the 20th occasion of the awards. David Buchanan of Mangaweka, this area's trustee on the board of the bank emphasised the community benefits that accrued from greater continued use of the bank's facilities in the area. "In the 20 years since we started in 1953, the Wanganui Savings Bank has be?n able to distribute $250,000 to groups and organisations in the bank's trading area," he told the gathering, "This has been made possible by ttae efforts of our clients in Pne region in using the bank's full range of facilities. Of course we can't overlook the contribution also made by our friendly and efficient staff!" Mr Buchanan's remarks were reinforced by Mr John Rowan, vice president of the bank. Following presentation of the donations, Ohakune's Mayor, Mr Bill Taylor thanked the bank on behalf of recipients and the community as a whole. He also reminded the bank that the
Ruapehu region was one of tremendous continuing growth. This meant not only great investment opportunities for the bank but also a positive need for the region to be able to look to the bank for a greater level of assistance. The Ohakune Bowling Club received a donation of $100. The following all received $50 each from the bank: Ohakune: Ohakune Senior Citizen's Club; Ohakune Garden Club; Ruapehu Scout Group; Ruapehu Country. Music Club; Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade; Youth Hostel Assn; NZ Red Cross Society; Ohakune Free Kindergarten; Turoa Tumblers; Ohakune Squash Club; Ohakune Indoor Basketball Assn; Rangataua School Baths; Catholic Women's League. Raetihi: Central Netball Club; Waimarino A & P Assn; Waimarino District RSA Golf Committee; Raetihi Netball Club; Raetihi Every Boy and Every Girl Rally; Schoolboy Rugby (Equipment Fund); Senior Citizens; Crippled Children Society; Raetihi Garden Club; Waimarino Floral Art; International Toastmistress Club; Waimarino Christian Young People.
