NETBALL
In warm fine conditions the 2nd round of netball was played at Ruapehu College. • The senior grade saw Karioi soundly beat United 25-17. Karioi all combined well. M. Akapita (GA) and A. Tulisi (GS) for Karioi combined well and used the gaps left vacant for the closer shots at goal. United never really settled. A good game from S. West and C. Quinn (GK). A spirited Postbank went down to Raetihi No. 1. The first half was very close with some excellent play by both teams. However, Raetihi seemed to have more tricks up their sleeve than Postbank and won convincingly 29-15. Good play and control from Postbank's (GA) Netta Huriwaka and (C) Sharon Mehana. For Raetihi Marg Berry played her usual sound game. The game between Central and College A was cancelled at half time after a dispute over the score. However both team captains agreed to play the game at a later date.
Rep trials for the Senior A and B squads were held following the final round. The Netball Executive reports a serious shortage of umpires and, in an attempt to overcome the problem, have ruled that every club must supply 2 umpires who should attend classes at Ruapehu College on Thursday nights at 7pm. • Umpires are reminded that this will be good opportunity to sort out any problems and improve their game.
