Raetihi 5-year old 'cashes in her chips'

Five-year old Ann Boswell certainly made a good investment when she bought a 35 cent packet of ETA chicken flavoured chips at Raetihi's Foodmaster store recently . . apart from the chippies themselves she received a 3,000% return on her investment! When Ann opened the packet, she found a yellow plastic disc inside with a number on it which, as a

normal 5-year old at Raetihi Primary School, who can count up to 137, she cannot yet comprehend — 1,000! Ann had just won the $1,000 prize in the ETA Foods $80,000 'Cash In Your Chips' campaign and last Wednesday morning she was presented with her cheque at the Foodmaster Store in Raetihi by ETA Foods, Wanganui representative Mr Jack Smith. Not knowing anything

about cheques she thought the money would all come in a box and she wanted to know if she would be able to carry it to the bank! Neither Jack Smith, who has been with ETA Foods for 16 years, nor Foodmaster Store manager Mr Graham Fredericksen have ever been associated with such an event before. " I' ve been selling groceries in Seddon Street for the past 36 years" said

Mr Fredericksen, "and this is the first time anything like this has happened". Ann's mother Mrs Colleen Boswell, said that her daughter had agreed to invest the money when she discovered that she couldn't take the whole family on a trip to London! During the 'Cash In Your Chips' camp&ign, hundreds of discs with values of $1, $10 and $100 were inserted at random into packets of chips at the ETA Foods plant in Wiri, Auckland, but only 9 discs valued at $1,000 were included. The chances of someone in Raetihi winning one of the nine major prizes were phenomenal, said ETA spokesman from Auckland, Brad Chibnall — "one in a hundred thousand". Three of the other major prizes so far claimed have all come from the main centres — Auckland, Wellington and Hastings. Raetihi must be a lucky town, said Mr Chibnall, because another ETA customer had also won a major prize, this time for $100.
